Mason Marchment scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period to lift the Dallas Stars to a 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, evening the Western Conference final at one win apiece.
Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist and Esa Lindell also scored for the Stars, who bounced back from a 3-2 double-overtime loss in Game 1. Goaltender Jake Oettinger made 28 saves and Wyatt Johnstonhad two assists in Game 2.
Connor Brown scored for Edmonton.
The Stars ended Leon Draisaitl's 13-game postseason point streak. He had recorded at least one point in every game during the Oilers' 2024 playoff run.
The series moves to Edmonton for Game 3 on Monday.
Marchment, whose father, Bryan, spent four seasons with the Oilers in the 1990s, broke a 1-1 tie at 3:41 of the third period. An Edmonton turnover in its own zone led to Ryan Suter sending a point shot toward the net, and Marchment deflected it in for his second goal of the playoffs.
Lindell's empty-net goal with 2:03 remaining in regulation sealed the victory.
Edmonton managed only five shots on goal in the third period. The Oilers outshot Dallas 16-4 in the first period but couldn't maintain the momentum.
After dropping the series opener, the Stars were looking for an early boost and received it when Benn opened the scoring at the 3:39 mark of the first period. Benn elected to shoot during a two-on-one rush and scored his fourth goal of the playoffs.
However, Brown tied it up 44 seconds later. Oettinger stopped Cody Ceci's shot attempt off the rush, but Brown pounced on the rebound and scored his first goal of the postseason.
Stars' Roope Hintz misses another game
Stars forward Roope Hintz was a game-time decision but missed a fourth consecutive game with an upper-body injury. The Stars made one lineup change, inserting forward Ty Dellandrea and sitting Radek Faksa.
